ABOUT LAND PORTRAITS  There are two commonly used canvas orientations for creating a painting: Vertical known as portrait and Horizontal known as landscape.  Portrait is the standard format for paintings of people.  In the wake of the Italian Renaissance the European Academies developed a hierarchy in the ranking of paintings according to genre. As a result, a portrait painting ranked much higher than a landscape painting. We have chosen to elevate landscapes by using the portrait orientation as the central piece in our exhibits.

OUR PROCESS  Although our creative vision is similar, we each paint in our own style and method. Leslie, with her brushes, gradually builds up layers to the finished image. Cecelia paints wet on wet in one layer using her collection of palette knives.
